Lost In The Library

image

Libraries are a timeless world.  I step through the doors and feel the welcoming embrace of this different dimension.  History collides with Crafting, Travel intersects with Biographies, Romance entwines with Home Improvement.  I loose myself in shelves of words.  Time has little meaning when you are surrounded by stacks of paper bound stories.  Tales waiting for you to explore.
There is something refreshing about discovering a new-to-me library.  It is like a treasure hunt for me.  I love seeing old buildings refurbished to house tomes of books.
My latest find is in Nebraska City, Nebraska.  The steady rains have delayed my self guided walking tour this morning.  So here I am slowing down to really absorb this historical landmark, and just as soon as the rain lets up I will explore outside my magical hideaway!

Freedom

Soul Experiences

lighted%20path

Traveling is freedom.

It is the wind in your hair, staying up too late, exploring around the next bend, all engaging, adventures with only yourself to set your limits. For reasons unknown, sand is softer, sunsets are more serene, sunrises are a welcome sight and people seem happier. Time seems to go at an accelerated pace, racing towards reality, forcing a feeling of urgency for you to see one more vista, taste one more delicacy, absorb one more cultural event, before going back home.

Enjoy every moment of your travels. Spend the time doing things that revitalize your soul.

Gossip

Image

This world is filled with doubt, hate and evil, please don’t contribute.

The words that leave your mouth or flow from your fingers leave an impression with all who absorb them.  It seems like an easy task to walk away from hurtful words, but sometimes it is not.  It should be easy to determine what information is gossip and what is not, but it is not always easy.  People will phrase information to make it seem benign.  Others will simply spill trusted words to others, masking it as trying to be helpful.  It is destructive and immature to live your life with gossip.  I spent many years ensconced with individuals who immersed themselves in hurtful communication.  What amazes me is the gossiper does not acknowledge the damage they have inflicted.  Words that cut to the quick with pain radiating from every syllable, were looked at as normal conversations.  The damage done, they move on to the next topic they want to devour, like a vulture waiting for a death.  It is so easy to fall into the “norm” when you are exposed to people who seem to talk for no reason but to hurt another.  Not knowing who to trust is exhausting.

Be the person others trust.  Be the individual who stands up and says “Enough!” when the gossip starts.  Be the friend who can see the damage that your words can inflict and keep your words encouraging.  Even if you feel justified in your remarks they can damage if they are gossip.  There is enough hurt in the world, uplift instead.  Spread the gift of happiness to all who you encounter, and be positive.

Mountains Out of Mole Hills

mountain-road-1600x1200

“You are making a mountain out of a mole hill!”  I heard that often as a little girl.  I will admit I was hotheaded and spirited young girl, much to the dismay of my very calm parents.  I would become upset over a broken toy, a perceived slight by a playmate or a failed project.  My mother who I am sure has the patience of a saint would console me with those words.  It took me a long time to even figure out what she was meaning.  My young brain tossed the words around trying to make sense of how a mole hill could be as large as a mountain.  Maybe to a tiny insect a mole hill was a mountain, or maybe it was a giant mole she was referring to.

As an adult I let that phrase guide my reactions to events.  Many times a situation is nothing more than a ‘mole hill’ but it can feel like a towering monolith.  The one thing parenthood has unequivocally taught me is, most situations are just mole hills in the grand scheme of things.

Approach your life with the thought that most scenarios are just small trials to overcome, not huge unattainable blocks in your road.  Travel on and around the small hills remembering most are not mountains.

Nature’s Tiny Treasures

Soul Experiences

Image

One of my favorite pastimes is photographing the natural world.  I love capturing obscure angles for the flora and fauna around me.  I believe the whole world is full of tiny treasures.  It may be the blooming spring flowers, smoke rising from a smoldering campfire, or even the perspective of an insect on a branch.  The world is a treasure waiting to be explored!

Go out and find your treasures!
