Travel Addict

I am ready for the open road!  Once again I feel the pull of travel tugging at my soul.  I desire to unleash my car upon the blacktop of our country.  The unknown waiting to be discovered.  The small communities with their amazing stores, hiding treasures from the mega chain retailers.  Beautiful gems of unrecognized accomplishments you only hear about if you slow down long enough to listen.  The local café serving up home cooked meals to the famers.  The local merchant selling knick-knacks none of us really need but a trinket from the area, brings back our travel memories when we are ensconced in our daily routines, reminding us of the fun we had.  The community playhouse is a refurbished barn, giving new meaning to “off Broadway”, with the performances exuding more passion than the highest paid actors on the Big Screen.

I long for adventure, discovery, knowledge and soulful awareness.  My next planned travel is not till Friday….maybe I will squeeze a quick trip in first! 🙂

Storms

Image

Last night the region I live in was ravaged by violent storms.  My thoughts and prayers are with the families recovering in the soggy, destruction, in the light of a new day.

Praying for the communities of Sutton, Beaver Crossing, Cordova and all affected by the Mother’s Day storms in Nebraska.

Smile

Put a smile on your face and feel it in your soul!

Image

The smile you wear is not for the outside world, although they enjoy it.  Your smile is for you!  It is impossible to genuinely smile and retain sadness or anger.  The joy your body resonates when you are smiling will carry you through your day.  It helps you to see the positive in your activities.  The traffic jam feels less irritating, the negative co-worker is more tolerable, and everyone will wonder what on earth you are smiling about!  Smiles are contagious, the kind of contagious you want to be infected with.  So put your smile on your face, embrace the world and have a happy day!

Simple Treasures

Image

Travel moves my soul.  It makes me feel alive.  It helps me to gain perspective on our big wide world.  I desire travel like I desire my children’s happiness.  The mountains call to me, the beach beckons, faraway lands whisper for me to explore.  The path that was not taken will always be my favorite passage.  I want to stumble through snow in July and trudge through the tropics in February.  I want to venture to the top of the next ridge and look over an unexplored valley.  I need to board a train with no particular destination in mind.

On this day I wish you happiness, inner peace and a sense of adventure in all you do.  Even if travel is not your inspiration, enjoy the simple treasures around you.  They abound even when life is crashing over you, there will always be a blessing for you.  Look closely and enjoy the day.

Travel well my friends.

Life or Death?

Image

I found half of a blue Robin’s egg in the street, this morning, on my walk.  It looked so fragile on the rough blacktop road.  The stark contrast of blue and black made me hesitate.  Was this broken shell the beginning of a new life? Or was it a cruel reminder of how fleeting life can be?  It is possible the newborn bird is resting with it’s siblings under the warmth of it’s mother.  A protective parent cleaning out their home to welcome the fledglings.  But the thought crossed my mind that a predator bird tossed the shell after scavenging the unborn life.  Laying waste to the life for it’s own survival.

The world is fraught with negativity.  My thoughts circled both possible outcomes.  Juggling life’s rejoicing and death’s sadness.  Death hangs around us.  The media flock like vultures to the gruesome scenes, when hearts are breaking or challenges overwhelm life.  Replaying the tragedies over and over on all of the communication devices we cling to.  How do we keep positive with so much darkness surrounding us?  Even the hope of new spring life is overshadowed with my negative thoughts.

Look for the light in the darkness, the positive amongst the negative, the hope within the tragedy.  Our lives are enriched with so much good that even at our worst there is always hope mixed with the faith that situations will get better.

Absent

Image

The world continues to spin on it’s axis.  I have been absent from my writing.  I miss the ritual of sitting down and letting my mind flow through my fingertips.  The feeling of accomplishment, connection, is fleeting.  I love allowing my thoughts to tumble forward onto the paper.  It is soothing and necessary.  I am delighted to be back.

My adventures took me through the rolling hills of Eastern Nebraska.  The apple blossoms of the famous Nebraska City orchards were in full bloom.  Walking down the miles of straight rows of fruit trees, showing off for the bees, is a magical sight.  Everything around you is shrouded in an inner light that seeps into your spirit, uplifting your own peace.  I spent my time investigating the natural beauty of spring.  Enjoying all the spectacular sights, sounds, and smells of this time of awakening.

It was then on west to central Nebraska for my time with my boys.  We spent the weekend reuniting with friends, forgetting sunscreen and relaxing together.  It is a blessing to see friends and family coming together to spend our time supporting the teenagers in our lives.  Too much food, too much sun and not enough sleep equals a perfect weekend away.
